Reverb, echo, or noise?

Three different things sit on recordings, and each has its own fix. Reverb is the wash of a room: hundreds of reflections too close together to hear separately, the thing that makes a bathroom recording sound like a bathroom. Echo is a repeat you can count, a voice coming back off a far wall. Noise is the floor underneath: hiss, hum, fans. This tool takes off the wash. The honest limits

Light and medium room sound comes off well. A heavy wash — a stairwell, a church, a long hall — is reduced rather than erased, because the reflections arrive while the voice is still sounding and the two overlap. And a distinct, countable echo is a harder case than a wash. If a result still carries too much room, that is the recording's truth, not a processing failure: the fix at the source is recording closer to the microphone.

How it works
